This was the only touristy thing we did during our six-day visit to Bali.  Visit the Tegalalang rice terrace and Kintamani.  Mainly because it is the man’s first trip to bali, and also because he is a nature buff.  So i knew this would be of interest.

I have seen countless pictures of the rice terrace while doing my research…and really…you gotta see it in person.  AMAZING.  We hired a driver for a day, one that came highly rated on tripadvisor, and well lets just say…he must either give caucasians a better service OR we were just unlucky.  He wasn’t that great…and he definitely took us to places where he gets a commission (which other tripadvisor posters have said he doesn’t).

But this review isn’t about the driver but about the rice terrace and kintamani.  We got to the rice terrace at about 9.30am…stunning.  It was not flooded with tourist and we did not need to fight for a birds eye view.  The place is so peaceful, the view was breathtaking.

Tip: Give the restaurants facing the rice padi a miss….very expensive..you are just paying for the view.

From there we moved on to Kintamani, an active volcano, though it last errupted in the early 1900s (according to our guide).  We were lucky, we were there early (around 11am) and the sky was clear so we had a great view of the volcano and lake.  Again, awesome view!  This is a definite must visit if you haven’t.

Tip:  give the traditional village near Kintamani a miss.  There isn’t much to see.
