The little mouse toilet roll holders are here!!! OMG!! They are just way toooooo cute!!! Love them!
We had this toilet roll holder customised for our master toilet. “Are there yet” cos I tend to bug the man when we are on road trips…”are we there yet” every three minutes just to piss him off…so it is a lil joke between us.
We didn’t do any customisation for this toilet roll holder…cos Mr Mouse was cute as is. This will go to the common toilet upstairs.
This is the toilet roll holder for the powder room. We had it slightly edited. Initially it read “What the Hell Have You Been Eating?!”
This towel ring was customised for the powder room. The seller had no towel rings on sale…so i tried my luck and asked if he would make one. The tag makes me chuckle…now the boys have NO EXCUSE. LOL

inFifth week challenging ourselves to cook at least five meals for six adults…keeping the cost to $100 in total. We overslept and didn’t make it to the wet market this week, and it is quite obvious we didn’t eat as well as the last few weeks due to cost. Heh!
Budget meal #1 – Three dishes…..ngoh hiang, trio of veggie with mushrooms and tofu, salted veggie duck soup with rice. This is was a homely and wholesome meal…we bought a whole duck…so to make it stretch…half was used for this soup. The other half was used for another dish we will enjoy later in the week.
Trio of veg cost – $4, Ngoh hiang – $2.50, salted veg and duck soup – $12. Total cost of this budget meal $18.50 to feed six.
Budget meal #2 – Marinara pasta. It had the last bit of our wholesale salmon, some mixed seafood of squid, shrimp, octopus and mussels from the seafood wholesaler. Cost – $8.50. That brings cost after two budget meals – $27.
Budget meal #3 – Was feeling under the weather, and wanted congee…so out came the braised duck in master sauce, green veggie and herbed omelette. Cost of this meal – $13.
Total cost after three budget meals – $40
Budget meal #4 – Grilled Red Snapper on a bed of charred corn quinoa and french beans. Cost – $28. That brings our cost to $68 after four meals.

Asian roasted chicken with mushroom noodles…the chicken was cooked in a very more-ish gravy which i reduced to a thick syrupy gravy….tossed the noodles in it.. delish. Cost to feed six adults this noodle dish – $11 (I did pair it with a side of asian style mussels which cost me $2)
The total cost to feed six adults a meal of asian chicken noodles with a side of asian style mussels $13
Budget meal #2 – We made a three course meal. This was our starter. Duo of salmon. It featured homemade gravlax….the skin of the salmon…i pan seared till crispy…served with a small side of rocket salad.

inThird week challenging ourselves to cook at least five meals for six adults…keeping the cost to $100 in total.
Budget meal #1 – Yong Tau Foo. Dad asked for Yong Tau Foo again…so it had to be done…was more prepared this time and got the soup stock started very early…it simmered for eight hours…it was full of flavour. And I made extra stock so we can have a different soup later in the week.
The yong tau foo pieces was purchased from a different market, we all agreed that the ghim moh market yong tau foo pieces were better. But thankfully this great stock helped make it a good dinner.
I only purchased a small amount of fish bones to make the stock because I also purchased two baby barramundi fish…Asked the fish monger to fillet them for me, so the bones went into this stock.
Total cost to feed six adult this meal with extra stock for later in the week – $15.
Budget meal #2 – Sesame meatballs noodles with leafy greens. This was an amazing dish….I was gonna make this to wrap up last week’s budget meals but I was under the weather and plans changed.
The minced meat was marinated a couple of days…packed full of flavour…the sesame gave it a great nutty flavour…the noodles were tossed in a quick and easy sauce…everyone loved this.
Total cost to feed six adults – $8. That brings cost after two meals to $23.
Budget meal #3 – Pork curry with cauliflower bhaji. Made way too much curry…even after feeding six, i have enough pork curry to feed everyone another full meal! Total cost – $18. Total meal cost after three meals for six adults – $41
Budget meal #4 – Pan Grilled snapper drizzled with a vinaigrette, on a bed of healthy quinoa tossed with avocado.. cranberries..hearbs..and french beans. Cost of the meal for six adults – $21. This brings our total after four meals to $62.
Budget meal #5 – Chicken with cashew and chestnuts, salted egg yolk prawns and garlic greens on a bed of rice. Total cost to feed 6 adults – $15. That brings total cost of five dinners for six adults – $77

inSecond week challenging ourselves to cook at least five meals for six adults…keeping the cost to $100 in total.
Budget meal #1 – Yong Tau Foo. This will be one of the pricier meals this week… the stock was done from scratch using fish bones, root vegetables and soya beans. The yong tau foo was purchased from a stall in the market that still does the fish paste the old fashion way of scrapping the fish meat off the bone….stuffed the fish paste into some bittergourd, green chilli and tofu skin. Rolled some up into fish balls and we had a wonderful meal of yong tau foo made with fish meat that has no fillers or additives. Topped with the wholesome and hearty broth…this was wonderful. oh! Added watercress for extra greens and vitamins. Total cost of this dish for six – $18.
Budget meal #2 – Chinese crispy skinned roasted pork belly with duo of sauce. Roasted garlic and honey mustard, Chinese dipping sauce with a kick. Teamed it with a tofu and watercress soup and garlic stir fried greens. Total cost of today’s meal for six, $15. (After two budget meals for six, $23 spent)
Budget meal #3 – grilled lemon herbed chicken with herbed vegetable couscous. Served with a homemade tzatziki sauce. This went down a treat with extra after six adults tucked in for seconds. Cost of meal, $15. (Total cos for 6 adults after three meals $38)
Budget Meal #4 – Grilled pork burger with caramelised pineapple, homemade mayo, apple slaw and onions, burger. Total cost for six was $20. (Brings total cost right now to $58)
Budget meal #5 – Sliced fish with broccoli. Cost – $11. This was pricey because the fish i used was snakehead (sang yu). It is pricey because it is believed to have great healing properties…I bought it cos I like the texture of this fish. Scallops is usually used when doing a broccoli stir fry in a chinese restaurant…kept cost down by using this fish instead. Part of tonight’s budget meal. Paired with stir fried lotus root with ham. Chinese cuisine. Cost – $3. Total cost – $14. (After five budget meals, $$62)
Budget Meal #6 – Minced meat congee with veggies and duo of egg. Was feeling under the weather…so out came comfort food…my super popular and savoury congee of minced pork with carrots, chicken egg and salted duck egg….it is extremely more-ish…LOVE this when i am not feeling too good. Made enough for everyone cos it is a favourite in our household. Cost of congee – $6
Total amount spent this week to feed six adult, six meals, $88!

inWe love cooking…and I teach cooking on weekends to help raise fund for a charity i work with. Tat has had to take a backseat for the time being due to home renovations. Speaking of home renovations…the cost keeps going up…so we decided to challenge ourselves. Cook at least five dinners for six adults…the budget? $100 for the week. Sharing some of the stuff we have whipped up:
Week #1
Budget meal #1 – fish and prawn pie.
Used fresh tuna fish filet for the fish portion… Fish stock made from the tuna bones. Used chinese spinach leaves to cut cost. Didn’t make a difference. Total cost $20 for twelve person portion.
Budget meal #2 – 40 cloves garlic chicken pasta.
I expected it to be crazy garlic-ky but it wasn’t. The sauce was delicious. Some garlic bread would have been great to mop up the garlic sauce. Instead we had steamed broccoli. Total cost was just $10 to feed six adults. (Two meals done, $30 spent)
Budget meal #3 – udon noodle soup with yuzu chicken. Cost, $15 for six adults. (After three meals, meal cost at $45)
Budget meal #4 – Sichuan bang bang chicken with steamed egg with prawns. Total cost $11. (After 4 budget meals, total cost at $56 for six people)
Budget meal #5 – Three-Cup chicken, veggie and rice. Total cost $5. That brings total cost to $56. Totally indulging tomorrow with our dinner tomorrow. And we still won’t hit $100 this week for six people. Very excited about tomorrow’s meal!
Budget meal #6 – butter chicken with saffron rice and cucumber raita. Cost was $25. Projected spend was $100 for five meals, six adults. I have outdone myself with the challenge this week. Total of six meal for six adults, $86 dollars this week.

We spotted this mirror a couple of months back…and we thought it would look great in the powder room.
The wood is very weathered and raw, which will go with the retro powder room look…and i think the handles will help pull the look together because the mouse toilet roll holder we got is a little more industrial then retro. So with this mirror…the mouse now looks like it is meant to be there!! Yippee!!
We were pleasantly surprised when we visited the shop…they were having a Great Singapore Sale..and we scored this mirror 20% off! Bonus!!
Also saw a really cute 80cm by 80cm painting in the shop that i really like. The artist is from Belgium. Love the pop of colour…but we are not sure where this painting can go in the new home…so we are gonna wait. Anyway, there’s no discount for this…so we have the luxury of time. Think paintings will have to wait till we get the house sorted.
